Cybersecurity, Document Security and Data Protection (SCORM)

The Cybersecurity, Document Security and Data Protection module equips Federal Civil Service officers with practical knowledge and habits for protecting government accounts, documents, systems and personal data. It reinforces that cybersecurity is not only an IT responsibility; every officer plays a role in protecting information, public trust and government services. Learners will gain skills in six key areas: password hygiene, including strong unique passphrases and multi-factor authentication; phishing awareness, including recognising suspicious and targeted attacks and responding quickly; secure document handling, including classification, encryption, approved storage and safe sharing; access control, ensuring people receive only the access they need; data protection, including responsible handling of personal data in line with the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023; and incident reporting, including identifying, containing, preserving evidence and promptly escalating security incidents. Overall, learners should leave the module able to recognise cyber threats, protect sensitive information, control access appropriately, comply with data-protection requirements and respond quickly when something goes wrong. The central message is that security is everyone’s responsibility, built around protecting confidentiality, integrity and availability while safeguarding people and public trust.
